The last two years has seen increased recognition, visibility and surge in popularity of contemporary original music in India. In spite of that, the world’s perception of Indian music is still subjected to stereotypes. These include Bollywood, Indian Classical Music and Advertising related music.
Eastwind aims to change that by not only making people aware that there is a music industry and market for contemporary music in the country but also by attempting to put India on the international music festival map.
It is estimated that there are over 500 active bands across the country, with New Delhi playing host to a large number of the nation’s most popular acts. With Indian bands and their music getting popular and bands being invited to perform abroad, the time is ripe to create a single-point showcase that recognises and presents this talent as an entertainment experience.
Keeping all these factors in mind and having worked with many artistes towards promotion of this form of the arts, Prospect designed Eastwind. Eastwind is the first ever music festival to promote contemporary original music of bands in the country and more importantly, a festival that is driven by the musicians themselves.
